Dog Training Essentials
There are several factors an individual must know in order to properly condition a dog. Knowledge You must know the principles of conditioning. If you don't, it could result in inefficient training methods and an unreliable working dog. You gain this knowledge through education and experience. Practice and/or Repetition The phrase "practice makes perfect” applies to dog training. The only qualification is that you must engage in intelligent practice, that is, practice the principles of conditioning correctly. Practicing a mistake results in a perfect mistake. Patience As a handler or trainer you must have patience. If you don’t you may not give the animal's learning process an opportunity to work. Remember it takes many trials for the dog to learn a task. Objective Training Training cannot be without purpose. Each training session must be designed and/or planned by identifying strong and weak points, correcting deficiencies, or testing corrective training to insure it was effective.
